A Surprise!

I checked here and my e-mails early this morning and then headed out for porch time and coffee. And of course Mr. Fred. It was quite breezy and it felt really good.

I was wondering if someone out there might have the answer to this high electric bill. I came home in mid July last summer and never had such a big bill. This week I received a $120. bill. I almost choked.  I started to wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the microwave not working right. Could it be drawing lots more electric to work. I know it needs to be replaced as it used to really heat the food at 30 sec. it is 1100 what ever. Today the button to open it broke and a spring came flying out. I am still able to make it work. I had hoped it would last until next month. But if this is causing my electric to go so high it's gone tomorrow.  I forgot it was Fathers Day so I didn't want to bother my Grandsons on there special day to haul the old one out and the new one in. I'll figure it out. I did ask my friend Tom and he said it's possible but wasn't sure.

I took some pictures the other day trying to see if the lense Tom gave me make much of difference but I couldn't see one any. Can you?

Oh maybe there is this one below seems darker

Look how big the bougainvillea has gotten
Still playing around with the new camera, I really like it.
Oh and the surprise, When I opened the door early this morning to go out there was a huge box out there with the rug shampooer. I have no idea when it was delivered as the last outs last night was around 7 pm.  I cleaned the computer room and am not impressed I guess I didn't use enough shampoo. Plenty of dirt came out of the rug but maybe tomorrow when I vacuum and have the blinds open it will look cleaner.

Good Night All

  1. I just love the bougainvillea. I've been wanting to plant some nice plants along my back fence, but so far haven't decided for sure what I want. I think I should try a couple of bougainvillea.

    1. Hello Gypsy,

They say the pinks are hardier and so far so good. We did get the bottom of the pot cut out so the roots can get into the ground to give it a better hold. If you can dig into your soil just plant it in. They some times die back on winter so cut it back and as soon as the it warms up they are on their way again. I want to get another one to plant a little further over.

  2. Oh I feel for you about the electric bill. Ours becomes terrifying in the hot months. I don't have a microwave but it doesn't help the longer anything runs sucking electricity. Whether it is a clothes dryer, air conditioner or a microwave. Ours has topped $230 a month and we now keep the house at 80 and don't dare turn it down.

PS Love your bougainvillea looks exceptionally friskie.

    1. Hi JMD,

I would die if my bill got that high. I will just stop using the microwave for now after all didn't always have one.

I'm really happy the bougainvillea is thriving too I only water it in the early morning.

  3. Probably not the microwave, but I would look at the air conditioner, with the temps you've had that might be the culprit. Check the coils to make sure they are clean. That helps the efficiency.

  5. One never knows what the power hog is! The ones I know of are the fridge, the dryer, and heat and cooling...Here we use window units for cooling for 2 reasons! #1 they are cheap and easy to replace if they stop working, number 2 we can replace them ourselves without calling in a repair man, each yr they get more energy efficient so its a good thing! We normally need to replace one about every 4 years and we sell old ones to the scrap yard for 9 cents a lb. Ours is running non stop right now!

    1. Hello Sondra,

I am keeping the unit on 80 and running the ceiling fan. If I don't move much it works fine hahaha. I shut if off when I get up in the morning and don't turn it on again until about 11. I then close all the blinds to block out more heat.

  6. oh, jeeez, Jo ... my electric bill would be wonderful at $120 ... during the summer. It's HOT where you are! even if you keep it at 80 degrees... man oh man...

try to shade your units or unit or whatever it is outside you have ... keep it out of direct sunlight... and yes... the hot water heater is a HUGE energy user.

In the summertime? I have such dry skin that I only take cool showers... I forget what temperature Joe set it on but we both liked cool showers ... that helps.

our sewer bill is OUR biggest todo! $90 damn dollars! wth? ad no one's there much ... man?
