Figured I Better Hop On Over

I read on several blogs about some new blogger set up. Well happy to see I'm still on the old one. But for how long I have no idea.

Still not much going on aroud here. Just cooking some new recipes but running out of freezer room again. I'm on a contact list with Home Depot for a small freezer. People are buying them up like crazy and I don't blame them.

I'm trying to stock up on certain foods and house hold items. Walmart still doesn't have a good stock of things. And now people are buying up coffee filters to line their masks. Great! I'm using the small sized ones and so far they have held the grinds in as long as I don't make a larger pot of coffee. For years I had one of those screen type filters but since I never used it I got rid of it. Seems to be the way all the time get rid of something then you need it.

I need to call the Big Boys, Big Girls ass. to see if they are going to start picking up donations so I can get my shed cleaned up and find a good spot for the freezer.

Today it was 106 F and the rest of the week looks the same with Monday dropping back down into the 90's. Been putting lots of water sources out for the poor birds.

Good Night All

  1. I changed my blog over to the new one last night. Doesn't look much different, just re-adjusted the layout and theme a bit. Didn't take very long.

Admire you for planning ahead in your meals, can't seem to get myself to do that.

Hey, my new project is fixing up the back of my pickup/topper to do a little traveling in this fall and work on the trailer meanwhile to get it road ready. Am I finding out how stiff I am getting in and out and moving around inside.

I think your over 100ยบ temperatures are blowing our way, weather folks keep talking about an early monsoon set up this coming week. Stay cool.

  2. I couldn't make the new format work. I sent a statement to Blogger to leave well enough alone and to fix real problems like changing font sizes.
Be Safe and Enjoy staying out of the heat.

    It's about time.

  3. Hi Emily,
    Good to hear from you.

I learned a long time ago to plan meals because my hours at work were so long and I worked really far. So by time I got home I was so tired I would eat anything and gained a ton of weight. They started a Weight watcher on the job site and that's where I learned to do the planning. On Sat and Sunday I would cooke for the week. It worked great and I have been doing that ever since.

So happy to read you are getting ready to do some traveling. I know it has been a long time for you. Yep time has sure tightened up out bodies.

These temps came fast and hard. I haven't heard about monsoons coming early yet but I haven't been catching the news lately either. Take care and stay well.

    Hi Rick and Kathy,

Some say they figured it out just fine but others said it was more than they could deal with.

I sometimes have a problem with the font so I just go back and enlarge it again. I notice it happens more when changing a paragraph, or upload pictures.

    Stay Well

  4. You are are the 4th person I know that is looking to buy a freezer. We got one right after we moved here. My problem is remembering what is in it. Finally I took inventory, made a list and "attempt" to keep it up-to-date.

  5. I so wish we had a donation place in Del Rio. I have so much I need to donate but can only do so in San Antonio or Houston.

When you travel with a senior you have to take a lot of items even for a one day trip to a doctor's appointment in San Antonio not leaving much room for other items.

Dollar Tree has a lot of coffee filters while I do not drink it or for that matter own a coffee machine I use the filters to cover whatever item I need to microwave and cut down on my Viva paper towel useage.

I hope your temperatures go down soon. Keep cool.

  6. I guess I will out foraging for mushrooms, and wild berries, I am not stocking up anything. When my old fridge dies *knock on wood* I want to purchase one of the small ones, like 17cu but due to Trump and his stupid tariffs they now cost nearly a grand, used to be less than $300. So when my fridge dies I will probably purchase a pre owned one if mine can't be repaired.

  7. Hi Phyllis,

If I would have bought a year ago I could have saved about $50. I only want a 3.5. Plenty big enough for me. I make myself so angry. LOL

    Hi MsBelinda,

I was able to get hold of them today and have a date for pick up but not until mid June. It will be great to get rid of all this stuff.

I need to go to Dollar Tree maybe Sunday morning or Monday. I want some other items that I know they must have.

!07 today until this crazy storm blew through and it poured down rain but the temp dropped 14 degrees that was nice while it lasted. I just stay indoors

    Hi Sondra,

Hope you find some good mushrooms and berries. I think my fridge is either a 14 or 16cu and I bought about 15yrs ago and paid under $500 at Lowe's but the freezer is way to small. And that's because I like to prepare meals in advance and freeze them. I have a great recipe for cauliflower and and a few other new things but the freezer if full sure don't want to waste the veggies with the prices as they are.

  8. Hi Jo! We're having the same thing here... Wal-Mart isn't getting many shipments of certain items. I'm slowly accumulating extra cleaning supplies in case of problems this fall.

Good idea about the freezer. I'm stocked very heavy on food. It's not a bad idea, especially if done over time. Take care! -- VT

  9. Hi Brad,

Even my daughter said it seems to be starting again with lack of supplies in the stores. And she is really good about finding things as she will go from store to store but it seems the shelves are pretty bare everywhere. I'm not a big fan of canned foods but that maybe something to buy now just in case.

I check all the stores every day to see if they have gotten in any small freezers but no nothing. Take care of yourself too Brad

  10. PLEASE do not put your freezer in your shed. They are not designed to work in hot temperatures. They are designed for indoor use. If you put it in the shed, it could run 100% of the time and still not maintain the proper temperature to keep your food properly. It will also use more power. My 4.5 cu ft is my kitchen, and adds very little to my monthly bill.

  11. Hi Phil,
Thanks for your imput. The shed is insulated but it still gets hot out there. I thought about buying a water heater cover to wrap it. I don't have room in my kitchen so I may have to find somewhere else to put it.

  12. Hi Phil,

Maybe but there is carpeting in there maybe set a wood platform under it.
