Butterfly Lodge Museum

I finally made it to Greer today. The weather still didn't look to promising but I went anyway as today was the last day the museum would be open for the season. And I sure did want to see all those butterflies.
Well it isn't exactly about butterflies. I guess there used to be a lot of them back in the early 1900.
The cabin was built built by John Butler, in 1913 for an author, James Willard Schultz, Its a very interesting story and he lived among the Blackfoot and married a Blackfoot woman and had a son who was named Hart Merriam Schultz, but went my his Indian name Lone Wolf who was a very well known artist.
Since the area had so many butterflies the cabin was names Apuni Oyis or Butterfly Lodge. For some reason you can not take pictures inside the cabin. For the life of me I can't understand. Most of the furniture and typewriters are original to the cabin and the fire place was huge. There are newer buildings for restrooms and an out door amphitheater is being built.

They have had lots of rain in Greer so the construction has made it kind of muddy and nasty. As you can tell it was very overcast today.

Behind the Tee Pee is the original cabin,

This is a new building for restrooms and an eating area
I found this beautiful butterfly I'm sorry to say in the restroom.
At least you don't have to go in here anymore. Not even that pretty picture could make this a better place.

I have many more pictures of Greer to show you but will post them tomorrow. It may be on a new lap top as this thing is really driving me crazy. I know part of it is blogger but I am having problems in other areas also.

Hope you all had a great Labor Day as  surely I did.

  3. Oh no Jojo, not again. At first I thought I saw a deer behind that outhouse, but then I realized it was just the sun poison playin' tricks on my eyes :)

  5. Great pictures! I would have loved to see the inside of the cabin as well. I wonder what their reasons are for not allowing it? Makes no sense, the flash won't hurt anything. Ahh well, looking forward to the rest of them tomorrow!

Have a great night JoJo, :)~
