Update On Florence

I was reading the free paper in Florence, Territorial News this morning and found a few things to add.

The Florence Hotel was originally called The Silver King Hotel, it did not give a date as to when it was build or when the change came.

The Pinal County Court House was built in 1891  they ran out of money so the clock was never completed. A false face was painted on, reading a  perpetual 11:44.

If I would have read this before posting yesterday I could have added this in.
The big draw to Florence was the Silver King Mine, when the mine played out Florence became more agricultural. Water of course was a problem thus the Coolidge Dam was built to divert water from the Gila River to the Pima Indians and the farmers who mostly grew cotton.

Other than doing reading today and cooking up some veggies, and making an apt. to take the truck to the RV guy on Friday morning, I didn't do to much else.

Good Night All

  4. Hi JMD,

Just had to get out and do something. Mornings aren't as nasty and a bit cooler. Humidity seems to be down a bit.

    Good morning John,

Haha I should have had that info first hand, but at least now we all know why the clock doesn't work.

    Hi Jim my Friend,

I think it is pretty cool that they always left it that way even today.
Don't feel bad I never know what time OR day it is.

  7. I wonder if they thought of adding a real clock now? Our town has a clock tower and it works and is pretty cool to hear when it dings the hrs. Cooler here today very nice!!

  8. The people who built the dam probably thought the water would never run out. Cotton is a very water-intensive crop.

  9. Hi Sondra,

I don 't think they will ever put a real clock in there, since it is now part of the history of the town.

    Hello Gypsy,

There are now on the Colorado Project water system. Cotton is still a big crop out that way.
