Summer Hangover

We did have 2 days of steady rain but not the kind that would cause any problems. The winds were mild and not the 35 -40 mph they said we would get. Yes the humidity was awful. But we all survived.

I took advantage of the cooler temps to get some deep cleaning done around here. My house is suffering from Summer Hangover. When it is so hot you just do the bare necessity cleaning and that's it. I finished the bedroom and the master bath the first day. It was terrible. The next day I managed to get the kitchen done. I have to much stuff. So I looked over what maybe I might get rid of and found nothing. If I should decide to sell and move I will have to get rid of lots of stuff as I will be down sizing quite a bit. I don't need all this room. A Park Model or Tiny house of some kind will be more than enough.

It will take about a year to get things settled here and stuff gone. I am going to list lots of things on Craig's List in about 2 weeks.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Good Night All

  1. I'm with you, Jo. I'd love to downsize. There's just not many places to do it where I live. In the park I was in, yesterday, people had park models. Some used their RV and put a roof over it--they were all nice and neat. Nice way to live in retirement.

  2. Hi Nancy,
My place is a single wide at 16 x 76 so its not huge but its way more than I need anymore. One spare room is Fred's and the other is small and perfect for a computer room. So smaller would work just fine.

  3. Even living in an RV one tends to accumulate. This week we "get rid". Now at our annual NOMADS meeting and they have a live auction, silent auction and bargain table to raise funds. We will be making many contributions. But then again, we will probably bid on a few things. It never ends, does it.

  4. It is very hard to get rid of the things we have grown attached to! I don't blame you for seeking better weather to live in its part of the reason I do long stretches of travel to get into cooler air...today IM in very cool air up in Canada!

  5. I suggest you read Marie Kondo's book, The Magic Art of Tidying Up. Actually, her 2nd book "Spark Joy" might be a better one. There are a lot of things we keep just because we've had them or they may have a sentimental value, but Marie says to hold the item in your hand and ask yourself, Does this bring me joy? For many items we keep them but they spark no joy in us, and once you start getting rid of those things it is much easier. For clothes and many other items, ask yourself Will I ever wear/use this agian? I had so many things I haven't worn in years but held onto them because they were bought back when American-made indicated quality.

The most important thing is to not run out and buy more stuff! I stay away from stores except for something I really need, and then go straight to that department and not stroll around looking at other things.

  6. Hi Phyllis,

I have done many clean ups! And yes then you bring in more. I'm glad you can donate them to this wonderful charity.

    Hi Sondra,

I have gotten rid of stuff slowly but now it needs to be done in a larger scale If I want to get out of here. Canada! WOW I have been thinking about getting a passport lately never had one.

    Hi Gypsy,

I remember your post about the book and your clean up. I have gotten rid of all the clothes I no longer wear a while ago and had gotten rid of many books but there are lots more I am now ready to get rid of. In doing so I can get rid of a book shelf. I have a huge coffee table that is SW design but it is full of stuff so I need to see what all is in it so I can get rid of that too. Going to post things on Craig's List see if I can make a few dollars if not donations here they come.

I no longer shop for things I don't need. Enough is enough if I want to travel.

  7. Hi Jo, our humidity has been nasty also. I have a living room partially full or more stuff to rid my life of. Meanwhile been slowly painting the inside of a closet in the morning hours. Could take a while. Ridding yourself of things, it is a process at least for me it is. Ugh. Ugh! Pet Fred for me.

  8. Hi Jane,

Yes this is a process. But it feels good every time I take things to the donation center. But I am going to post things on Craig's List to sell some things. I really need to cut down on my pottery collictions which is the hardest of all.

    1. Save the pottery until the bitter end, maybe you will end up with more room for it? I have a beautiful set of china that has not been used in 9 years, it needs to go but I am struggling to do it. Sigh.
