Cave Living

Today I took off pretty early to get some shopping done but it was already 89 F. I spent quite a bit of time walking around the grocery store just so I can get some kind of exercise. Well if that wasn't a mistake. I checked out and as I walked out the door it was like being throw into a oven set at 400 degrees. I loaded the groceries into the back of the truck and cracked open the window and turned on the A/C and let some of the hot air blow out the window. I just sat there for a bit before even taking the sun screen out of the windshield until the A/C started to crank out some cool air.

I'm sure glad the store is close to home as it was now 101 f already and the A/C was having a tough time cooling the truck. Since I had to back into the driveway I had to open the back window to cut out the glare so I can see to back up. I don't use the mirrors as they make things look way different room wise than what is actually there. That blast of hot air was awful. I unloaded and by time I got in the house I could hardly breath sure happy the house was cool. I put away the frozen and cold things and grabbed a bottle of water and sat down to cool off and catch my breath.

Once I cooled down I went around closing up the few blinds I had opened earlier in the morning. And had to move the entertainment center because the vent is behind it for the A/C. Boy what a difference that made for letting more cool air in the room. We topped out at 106 today. I now feel like I am living in a cave not to happy about it but must keep out the heat as much as possible. My first electric bill showed up in my e-mail this morning since it turned so nasty hot. Thought I would swallow my tongue. So I readjusted the thermostat and by moving the piece of furniture allowing for more air to circulate it should be fine.

I was talking to my friend about not going up North again and I think she hit the nail on the head when she said I lost my interest because I just got tired of trying to make the camper work for me. I already had my daughter take the bed out and I have been removing things a little at a time. No reason for carrying around any extra weight and wasting gas.

Good Night All

  1. That's some warm weather you are having, if you are not going north then I guess you will be living in that cave for a few more months yet.. Good luck.

  2. Hi George,

Yes this has become the norm now since I haven't been going up North for this is going on the 4th summer.

  3. It's hot here in Las Vegas also. 101 today but our camper cools down quite nicely with the air on. Which it is almost 24 hours a day. I think we all eventually reach the point where going north loses its appeal and cave dwelling isn't so bad after all.

  4. Ditto here in So NM about hot. No measurable rain here since 3/12. Hate keeping drapes closed as can't see beautiful scenery around but prefer the cool of inside with swamp running. We just use window AC during July & Aug and early Sept but they just don't cool like the swamper does. Stay cool, heat is harder on us older folks.

  5. Hi Sandie,

I would love to head North but my camper just is to small. Every year I say I am going but it just doesn't happen. My home is getting old and things need replacing so it eats away my savings. So I make the best out of my cave lol

    Hi Emily,

I used to have a swamp but it rusted out when the turn off valve went bad and the water kept running into the cooler pan all winter luckily I already had central a/c. The swamp is definitely cheaper to run as long as there isn't any humidity I'm going to get a price on a new swamp.

  6. I ended up shortening my trip home due to the exact thing you stated TOO HOT! I'm back a week early and good thing too this place was going to seed!

  7. Hi Sondra,

Sorry to hear that, but how can you enjoy anything when it's so hot. I guess you son didn't have time to work on the yard. Is you Mom home already too? I bet the dogs are happy to be home and out of the heat too

  8. I really miss not being able to drive around like I once did, but I travel via reading others' blogs and I'm used to it now. That heat sounds awful, so stay hydrated and enjoy the air conditioning.

  9. Hi Gypsy,

Yes I read lots of blog and enjoy their journeys and pics. Your train trip looked like a great way to see things also. the heat is intense and if I don't get out early in the morning I don't go out at all. I drink lots of water and keep refilling water bottles to cut down on the waste of plastic.

  10. I am NOT a morning person but the heat and humidity have made me have a change of heart.

I was so proud of myself both yesterday and today as I went to the grocery store early and was home by 9:30 a.m. when the temperature was still tolerable.

I think there are a lot of us who prefer to live in a cave than put up with the heat. Keep cool!

  11. Hi MsBelinda,

Good for you. It sure heats up quick these days. Right now at 6:47 am it is already 75 so I have the windows and door open with just the fans so the air doesn't get nasty in the house.
We aren't having any humidity yet but maybe by the end of this week or next it may start building we sure need a good monsoon.
