Camping Trip Moved

Well the weather was part of the canceled trip as high winds are in the forecast. But one of my grandsons is in the hospital as a possible reaction to Ibuprofen. He had some dental work done and they told him not to eat any solid foods and to take Ibuprofen as well and the antibiotics. Well with no food there wasn't anything to absorb all that aspirin or what ever is in that stuff and it inflamed his liver. He was fine and played basket ball and then when they got home he just double up in the worst pain. He couldn't even move the pain was so awful. They rushed him to the hospital they didn't know what it was and the blood work was all over the place. Finally tonight they figured it out and are going to try him on some food and see how his blood work goes after that. Took a few years off his mom and I lives. So be careful with these pain meds even the over the counter stuff is dangerous. Might add he is only 27 and they didn't rule out heart disease as so much pain was in his chest and stomach. But that has been cleared but he does have an inflamed liver. Dr. thinks this will all clear up. We sure are praying that is true.

If all goes well I will go camping next week.

Good Night All

  2. Those meds, oven OTC, can play havoc with ones system. Keep us informed on how he is doing.

  3. Hi George,

Yes it was and they are still running more tests. He said he feels fine and his biggest complaint is hunger. They are going to do the camera thing into his stomach today to make sure he has no bleeding.

    Hi Phyllis,

Yes they can be very dangerous. Thank you and I will keep everyone posted.

  4. OMG, I feel so bad for him. What a thing to happen after going through dental work, of all things. I rarely take anything for pain but worry every time I do. I do have some Advil on hand, which I think is the same as ibuprofen, but usually take Pain-EZE which I got at Whole Foods (Not sure what is in it but it's not ibuprofen). I can imagine how hungry the poor guy must be. Hoping he is up and back to normal soon.

  5. Hi Gypsy,

Thank You, This is such crazyness. They still haven't given him any food because they wanted to run another test now they are saying they aren't and going to give him some soft foods and see what happens. That's what they said last night. Enzime leaves only came down slightly. Very frustrating

  6. Medications that are Chemically Made are the most Dangerous because of all the Side-Effects. Many Medications will actually state they must be taken with Food. Glad to hear he is improving.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  7. Oh my goodness, I hope your grandson gets well soon. I will take aspirin but there is no way I will take anything that contains acetaminophen like Tylenol which will ruin your liver.

Advil is not much better as it contains ibuprofen.

Hoping all is well soon and that you can go camping next week.

  8. Oh no! I just saw this post and the follow up so sorry to hear this. Our bodies react differently to these meds they should have at least told him to drink a boost of something to dilute those meds.
