How sad is this

These picture were taken last year right after the rainy season.
We have had some really hard rains this year so I figured the water would be running again and I would make a video

Much to my horror this is what I found.

Seems the lake is owned my a private water company that uses the lake for irrigation. The town of Lakeside is fighting to get owner ship of the Woodland Lake Park and so far it seems to be winning. (it will be voted on) But will they be able to save the lake? From what I understand they will not get the water rights. What good will a dried up lake be to whom ever owns it anyway, and if they do get the rights can this ever become a lake again?

I will try to keep my ears and eyes open for more information. I loved coming here and just sitting on the other side of the lake and watch all the different birds, and just enjoy the peace and tranquility, and take pictures of the clouds moving about. I know there are lots of other lakes here but this was my favorite and the closest.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

  1. Water rights seem to be what it's all about in the west and you're right, what good is a lake without water. I hope it gets resolved.

  2. That's a shame that anyone would let the lake dry up.

  4. Always sad to see the favorite places go to pot!

Nature would do just fine if mankind would just leave her alone!

Sorry to see the condition of the lake!

  5. Hi Jim, I know its so sad. I just finished reading a story on the begining of this lake. It dates back to the late 1800s. I hope they can aquire the water rights.
Hope you have a wonderful day.

  6. What a shocking difference in the two pictures. That could happen to us in the future if we're not more careful. Which is why my grass is brown now since I refuse to waste water watering it. I admit that I do water my flowers, but that's only for a short while. After all, I do live in the Seattle area and we are known for our rain, so I supplement when it isn't raining.

  7. Hi Jeana, Yes it is shocking. They had a story on this lake in the local paper but never mentioned why it is being drained. I guess I will have to do some snooping to find out.
Hope you sale went well today.
