The End of Winslow but not the end of Route 66

Finally went shopping today. I hate shopping for important things but it just has to be done.
I hope I am good until I leave.

Tomorrow is the dreaded laundry day. I may have to finish it on Friday. What a bummer.

Leave it to me to add a little history at the end of the Route 66 adventure.

Winslow was founded in 1892 as a railroad city and still is.The town was named after
General Edward F. Winslow. The city was designated as a major division point because
it had surest supply of water needed for the  steam engines of that time. It is interesting to
note: Winslow still has one of the surest water supplies in the entire state of Arizona.

This was open

The Harvey girls Worked at many of Harvey Railway Hotels
This Hotel is now La Pasada Hotel and Resort.

No they must have left in a hurry and never turned the sign around

Again take through the window of the closed museum

The Old Train Station

We had lunch here and the service was great and so was the food.

La Pasada we weren't dressed nice enough to go into the resort but I will one day. It has been totally restored and I have seen pictures and a special on TV.

But how sad that this is what you see across the street .

Tomorrow the return trip.

Good Night All

  1. I enjoyed the memory jog of my visit a couple of years ago. By the way, the old depot is still in use by Amtrak.

  3. Good Morning John,
Yes It was closed at the time I guess there wasn't a scheduled Amtrak at the time.

    Hi Carolyn,
I'll go back and look at what you wrote. I'm behind schedule this morning had to do luandry. :(P
And about the water I did think it was kind of dry the water must be underground and drawn from the Little Colorado.

Thank you both for stopping by.
