Someone Was Looking At Fred

Had a great day with my daughter Tracy this morning.

When I came home Fred and I went to sit outside. Of course he thought sun bathing was a great idea. I saw a large bird fly into the tree next door. I ran an grabbed the camera. I'm not sure if this is American Kestrel female or a young Red-Tailed Hawk. Maybe Judy will stop by and let us know.

Checking me out

Checking Fred out

I have had Kestrel's here before and they where very colorful that's why I'm not sure what this one is. Sure is a beautiful bird

Good Night All

  1. A very good shot of what looks like a Coopers Hawk! Fred was about to be on the menu. That really is a great shot!!!

  2. Cooper's Hawk it is! It's a young one. Next year at this time it will have red eyes and the stripes on its chest will be horizontal rather than vertical. :)

  3. I'd be a little nervous if those eyes were watching me so intently! Really good photos of a beautiful bird.

  4. Did you notice what color his legs were?

  5. I get especially nervous when the vultures are circling. I always walk just a little faster.

  6. So maybe a sharp-shinned hawk? Looks very close if not identical.

  7. Hi Sondra n Judy,

Thanks we had been leaning to Red tail but Cooper's was in the running too. By next year Fred will be easy pickins for sure.
I had to get down on the steps and sit there to get a shot under the leaves. He sure was pretty.

    Hi Gypsy,

He wasn't bothered by me at all so that made me bring Fred in the house. They are so Majestic.

    Hi JMD,
His feet are yellow, but like Judy said above it is a young bird. I looked at the sharp-shinned and had ruled him out. It was really hard to identify but I know if Judy stopped by she would know for sure.

    Hi Phyllis,

We have large Turkey vultures here too and they are always circling around. The hawks are here too, we have a varitie of them.
