Pictures!

It dropped into the mid 20's last night and stayed in the high 40's for the high of the day. It should  only be in the low 30's tonight and 60's tomorrow.

Didn't do much yesterday but some cooking and a few errands and wait for someone to come and get this stuff out of the house and of course that never happened again. Tomorrow I will see if I can drag it out of here myself.

I was watching Fred in the yard when something caught my eye as a breeze blew. It was lots of feathers. Lots of feathers means predator, as I looked closely I could see it sitting there on the ground. I put Fred in the house and grabbed my camera. And hoped I could transfer and post. I believe it is an American Kestrel, female as the colors and muted compare to a male. It sure wasn't going to fly off and leave his dinner and just gave me the stink eye. I stayed back as I didn't want to scare him off.

At first I kept getting and error message that something was wrong with my canon set up and then finally the pictures transferred. then another 20 Min's of aggravation and I was able to find and post the pictures. Now if I can just figure out why it isn't printing anymore.

Have I mentioned how much I hate this windows 10. I had hoped to take the laptop to the Geek Squad but just haven't had the extra money.

Good Night All

  1. Hi Jo, what is happening with that bird ? What are all those loose feathers ? Are they coming out of its chest - looks like a hole from a fight - or are all those feathers flying off whatever it killed and is eating ? How big is Fred - could that predator attack him ? Really curious and always read your blog - seldom comment. Take care - Cindy

  2. He just made a kill and those are the feathers of his kill. These are very small hawks and they can not hurt Fred, who is a doxie. But we have much larger hawks here that can hurt Fred, but I still think he is to large for them to carry off. I have posted pictures of a Harris hawk that was eyeing up Fred. So I have to keep and eye out when he is in the yard.
Nice of you to visit and comment today

  3. I do believe your hawk is either a Cooper's Hawk or Sharp-shinned Hawk. Can't tell for sure because I can't tell how big it is.

  4. Hi Judy,

WOW never thought about the Cooper, I for some reason thought they were bigger, Thanks for questione me on this. I went back to my bird book and yes it is a Cooper the markings are right on.

  5. I know it's all part of nature, but I hate to think of the poor bird who owned the feathers!

  9. We have hawks and coyotes around here so we keep a close eye on them. Beautiful bird but not as beautiful as those 80s next week.
