A Visitor

We are finally having some nice weather even if it is cloudy and possible rain on the way. But nice temperatures. Been sitting out on the porch and crocheting some hats for a friend with Traumatic Brain Injury. The plates make him very cold which in turn cause terrible headaches. He asked if I could make one in royal blue with the green ribbon since it is TBI month. So I got that one and another mailed off to him and his wife said he was so thrilled. We go back a long way and always had great fun together. Which they didn't live so far away now.

After going in the house today for a late lunch Fred decided he wanted to go back out. He loves laying in the sun. As I walked out something caught my eye and at a closer look it was a beautiful Cooper's Hawk having his lunch. I had wondered why I hadn't seen or heard any humming birds lately or the pesky ladder back woodpecker.

Here comes a pesky human
OK lady get your pictures and be gone

Lady do I bother you when your eating?

I have seen lots of feathers under and around this tree before but I thought it might be the stinking cats killing off the birds and maybe some of it is.  But when it comes to the hawks I understand it's nature, when it's those dam cats that people allow to roam free that's another story.

Good Night All

  1. I have a falcon that has success in my yard from time to time because of the feeding I do. i just wish he wouldn't come while I am eating breakfast and gazing out the window at all the pretty birds.

  2. That was very nice of you to crochet a hat for your friend.

I have never seen a Cooper's Hawk before. He is beautiful and not at all camera shy.

  3. Nice that you could help your friend out that way. Hoping he will recover enough that the effects won't be so severe.
Unfortunately when we try to help feed the smaller birds we also attract the Predators. He is a beauty.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  4. Hi Emily,

Since the lady next door puts seed blocks on her wall(3) it gives the hawks lots of pickings. Mostly doves which is fine by me they're are far to many of them and they are so filthy. But yes could do without seeing them dinning when we are.

    Hi MsBelinda,

I love making these hats for needy, cancer patients or anyone who needs one for any reason.

We have Red Tail hawks, Harris Hawks and many others but the Cooper seems to love that tree. As long as they have food they will not abandon the space.

    Hi Phyllis,

    Thank You

  7. Those are beautiful pictures of the hawk! Around here we have cats who kill small birds. The hawks, owls, and eagles kill the cats. When camping, I keep kitty Jenny on a leash because I can see the eagles in the trees just waiting to get their claws in her...

  8. Hi Brad,

Thanks glad you like the pictures. I get them in my yard every now and again. I had one eyeing up Fred but I think he knew Fred was just a little to big to handle. We do have larger hawks here and they can carry Fred off so I keep and eye on him and never leave him out alone. Jenny is small so yes you have to keep an eye on her for sure.
