No I'm not going crazy and buying 100 rolls of TP as a matter of fact I didn't buy any as I had bought some last shopping trip. And this virus does not cause the runs. The news media needs to stop this insane reporting. Yes it's an ugly virus but we have had worse in the fall with lots of deaths.
I did stock up on food just in case things do go south on this. I have spent the week cooking lots of meals and freezing single serve meals in containers. Picked up more not perishable items to keep in the pantry. I don't buy much in the way of canned goods. I buy raw beans and transfer them to glass jars and cook them up as needed. I always make my own soups and I have a good stock in the freezer of chicken veggie soup. I don't use pasta in my soups I cook barely and put it in 1/4 c containers and put it in the soup as I heat it.
I don't go out much as it is so I will just go out when I need to since I have a lung problem and don't need to put myself in harms way as they have confirmed 1 case here so far.
I will make a quick run to the store for more containers and something to give me a project to work on. Also need to get rug shampoo and filters for the heater/ AC unit.
Good Night All
I think the news is only reporting what they are seeing. I saw a video of people going crazy buying toilet paper but it was in Australia.
ReplyDeleteThough another video of a COSTCO showed people scooping up rolls of TP. Like I have mentioned before I believe TP is a good bartering item much like liquor and cigarettes are.
Should beans and lentils be removed from their packaging and placed in glass containers? How about rice?
Thank you for mentioning A/C filters I have two but I think I need to pick up a couple more since summer is almost here or at least summer like temperatures.
Hi MsBelinda,
ReplyDeleteWho knows what sparked this TP mess, my cousin was in Sam's today and now they are grabbing all the paper towels.
I have been taking my beans and lentils out of the bags and putting them in glass jars for a few years now and yes you can put rice in glass jars also. I feel it keeps them from getting bugs, but could be wrong about that. But I do not have bugs in my beans or lentals or peas.
I always put dried beans, lentils, rice and pasta into glass jars and add one or two dried bay leaves. I never have problems with bugs by storing them that way.
ReplyDeletePeople aren't using common sense when deciding what to buy. A lady asked me why I didn't have toilet paper and liquid hand soap in my shopping cart. I told her I always kept an ample supply on hand. I had cold medicine, cough drops, nasal mist and lysol in my cart.
Since Jim has so many health issues, we stocked up last week on canned goods as well as rice and pasta. I am trying to keep him home as much as possible. We always have a good supply of to because I'm weird that way. 😁
ReplyDeleteYour reply made me laugh! I guess I am weird that way as well :D
DeleteKeeping away from crowds is a good way of staying healthy.
ReplyDeleteMost of the problem is people not covering their Mouths and Noses when they sneeze or cough then not washing their hands.
Your soup sounds good.
Be Safe and Enjoy the warmer weather.
It's about time.
Hi Granny_J,
ReplyDeleteThe bay leaves are a good add, I will add them.
People are going off in all directions. And I blame the news media for this. I bought my usual grocery's but added a little more so I can store cooked veggies. Yes I also keep the same items as you do and keep an eye on the expiration dates.
Hi Sandie,
I understand trying to keep Jim safe, and it is good that you stocked up. And yes I always make sure I have TP because I'm weird that way too but I won't over stock no room LOL
Hi Rick and Kathy,
Yes trying to stay away from crowds is about the best way. At the store last weekend a man was standing right next to us coughing an sneezing with out covering his mouth or nose. I said excuse me but that is really nasty, so he used his bare hand ah no
we quickly moved on. I grabbed my hand cleaner and wipes and we cleaned up out hands and faces.
Thank you for your reply JO...I will start putting them in glass jars because in the past I have had bugs in my rice. In fairness though I think it was because I left it in its bag and forgot about it for months.
ReplyDeleteGranny J - I will also try putting in bay leaves though I don't think I have ever bought any before but I will put it on my list.
I don't worry about buying extras of toilet paper because I just know one of my kids is going to run out and will ask to "borrow" some tp! Costco sells it in 20 roll packs, so I pick up a pack when I shop and now it's on hand. It's comical that people want to stock up on it, but think about the horror you might experience to realize you are down to just a couple of rolls!
ReplyDeleteHi Gypsy,
ReplyDeleteI used to buy those big 20 roll packs but they just got so expensive so know I buy the 9 pks or is 12? I have one child who gets a roll or 2 from me.
There is 9 cases of the virus, in my town...we did some shopping on Tuesday guess it will have to do! We hare trying to not go around crowds but who knows!! I think the news media needs to educate that MOST people recover and are fine!
ReplyDeleteHi Sondra,
ReplyDeleteWe have a few more cases here now. I have to go out tomorrow but other wise staying home.
And yes the people are recoverying at home. There making such a horrible panic everywhere.
We have a chest freezer FULL and our side by side freezer is full. Not because of this but because I can't pass up a good bargain when I see it.
ReplyDeleteHi Phyllis,
ReplyDeleteI always say I'm going to buy a small chest freezer and then I don't. KNow I am sorry I can't even fit air in there LOL At least your prepared
